Most of us have paper towels at home. We usually use them to remove grease from food or for cleaning. However, there are things that should not be wiped with them in any case. We explain what cannot be cleaned with a paper towel.

Paper towels in a roll are most common in households. They are ideal for wiping up water from dishes or liquids spilled on the floor. Plus, they’re great for wiping down countertops, washing windows, and dusting.

But that doesn’t mean it’s a bug-free product. In some cases, instead of helping with cleaning, it can only harm. What should you remember?

Does paper towel cause scratches? Better not to wipe these objects with them

Some paper towels are rough and coarse. This is why they don’t like soft surfaces. Cleaning multiple items in this way can damage them, scratch them, dull them, leave streaks and white fibers. It’s a fast track to big expenses and the need to buy new equipment. The following items cannot be wiped with a disposable towel:

  • computer screen,
  • TV,
  • phone screen,
  • mirrors and glass surfaces,
  • glasses,
  • lacquered furniture.

Are paper towels biodegradable? They should go in this bin

Waste sorting has been mandatory in Slovakia for several years, but there are still products that we are not sure about and we have to carefully consider which container they should go into. One of them is a paper towel. After using it, many people ask where to throw it away.

  • There is only one correct answer: this type of waste should go into mixed waste, i.e. into the black container. Disposable towels are not recyclable.

They may contain harmful chemicals, e.g. after drying hands in public toilets or removing dirt and grease from kitchen counters. There are exceptions, however, as some companies make paper towels that are biodegradable. They can be composted after use.
