Algarve 2030 foresees in its program the activation of a new measure to support the promotion of social inclusion through culture.
“The support of these cultural investments is intended to be a means and not an end in itself, encouraging projects that aim at the social and economic integration of more vulnerable groups. In this way, the aim is for culture to be a factor of cohesion and promotion of diversity”, explains CCDR Algarve in a statement.
This purpose of the Regional Program is aligned with the European Pillar of Social Rights and the National Strategy to Combat Poverty, and also with the National Plan to Combat Racism and Discrimination 2021-2025.
In this context, the Notice for submission of applications “Inclusion through Culture” was open, which aims to promote “the social inclusion of particularly vulnerable groups, through initiatives and activities of artistic and cultural expression by and for disadvantaged groups, guaranteeing access and enjoyment of activities and goods, as well as their involvement in the processes of production and representation of forms of artistic expression, as a condition for a more cohesive and inclusive development”.
Following the analysis of the applications presented, 12 projects supported by the Algarve 2030 Program are being implemented, which operate in different areas and audiences, also covering different territories.
“Inmates, migrants, elderly people, people with disabilities and/or disabilities, young NEETs and people with mental health problems are covered”, says CCDR Algarve.
According to this institution, the supported projects foresee the development of concrete opportunities for participation through different forms of artistic and cultural expression, intervening through dance classes, sharing of memories and testimonies; workshops, artistic residencies, shows and exhibitions; valorization of the territory’s cultural heritage and focus on proximity interventions; social intervention that uses artistic practices; social transformation through artistic and cultural activities, fostering critical thinking, empowerment and civic participation of participants; promoting interculturality and non-discrimination in a school context, using participatory art; cultural and social formation of individuals; training and promoting inclusion in the community, at all levels.
The approved FSE+ support of more than 800 thousand euros under the Algarve 2030 Program will allow, in the coming years, to “show culture and art as valuable instruments of social inclusion, contributing to cohesion and promoting diversity”, concludes .
