Does Fernanda Torres have a World Cup? – 06/01/2025 – Sandro Macedo

There is no reason to talk about football at the beginning of this week/year.

After all, on the first Monday of 2025, Brazil woke up excited about a title. It wasn’t the national team’s hex or a new Libertadores, but rather Fernanda Torres’ victory at the Golden Globes (woohoo).

No, the film “I’m Still Here” didn’t win, it lost to France (always them). The award went to the actress, in the drama category — which is one of the specialties of Brazilian football, from goalkeepers to strikers, including coaches and managers.

So the award, deservedly celebrated on Sunday night, was an individual achievement, but as part of a group. Something like Vini Jr. being recognized with The Best for his services to Real Madrid, perhaps.

If every Brazilian who is celebrating Fernanda’s victory on social media (woohoo) also decided to go to the cinema to watch the film, “Still I’m Here” would easily reach 5 million audiences (it has 3 million). There are people from Palmeiras who think that “I’m Still Here” is nothing more than a meme invented to explain Rony’s stay.

It is curious that, until the day before yesterday, many experts remembered the little relevance of the Golden Globes. Over the years, the award has been subject to several allegations of corruption — including vote buying, bribery and influence peddling, nothing we have ever heard of in relation to other corporations, such as FIFA.

Before the 2022 party — not so long ago, Abel was already coach of Palmeiras —, some used the term “rotten” to refer to the event. Heavy, huh. And there were still issues of lack of diversity, gender and race. The 2022 awards were not even broadcast on TV — in this regard, they failed to look for the right people; CazéTV would certainly not refuse to broadcast the ceremony.

But all that is in the past.

Since Fernanda’s victory (woohoo), the Golden Globe has been one of the most important awards among humanity’s golden trophies. It’s worth much more than the state championships or the Copa do Brasil — I won’t even mention the South American Championship.

For those who followed the game from the beginning, you can say that Fernanda’s victory was a comeback (uhu), with a goal in the 47th minute of the second half, in a debatable move that required VAR analysis. Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie had the European team’s pose at the Club World Cup.

Tilda Swinton’s reaction of joy and surprise was that of someone who thought Fernanda was offside, but the VAR pointed out the same line.

São Paulo native Selton Mello shouted effusively, with more emotion than in any Calleri goal in the 2024 Brazilian Championship (there were few).

Fluminense’s profile included a photo of its illustrious fan wearing the team’s shirt. Good omens, perhaps. Other fans of the Rio tricolor recovered videos of Fernanda talking about her fans. The Botafoguenses, thirsty, try to take the title from Walter Salles. Anything goes.

Now we will have those who say that the Golden Globes are more important than the Oscars. Controversial.

In fact, it’s always worth remembering that Fernanda Torres has won the best actress award at the prestigious 1986 Cannes Festival, for “Eu Sei que Vou te Amar”, by Arnaldo Jabor. And Cannes didn’t even win Meryl Streep (only honorary).

But the question that many will ask just for the pleasure of the false controversy is: does Fernanda Torres have a World Cup?
