The chain ended 2024 with 121 bookstores in Brazil, with 13 new units in Goiânia and the State of São Paulo
Livraria Leitura ended 2024 with a total of 121 stores across the country. The franchise is currently the largest chain of physical bookstores in Brazil and intends to open 10 new units in 2025. In 2024, the organization opened 13 Leitura units in the States of São Paulo and Goiânia.
The president of Leitura, Marcos Teles, states that the expectation for 2025 is that there will be approximately 10% growth in sales in stores that were already in operation, considering the new units opened.
The manager hopes to increase the total number of books sold by more than 1 million, projecting to close the year with around 12 million copies sold. “2024 was a good year, we had 2-digit growth and managed to open a significant number of stores, with a positive balance of 11 units, going from 110 to 121 operations”these.
Teles also said that a great ally to the book sales market has been the launch of series inspired by the stories. Recommendations from digital influencers in the reading industry are also a factor that contributes to sales growth. According to Leitura, more than 62% of the company’s revenue in 2024 came from book sales.
The president also highlighted the importance of a cautious expansion strategy, which includes the opening of new stores and the closure of loss-making operations. He also stated that the team is attentive to market news and consumer demands, to maintain Livraria Leitura as the leader in the book sales segment in physical stores and the 2nd in national e-commerce.
NEW STORES
In October 2024, Livraria Leitura opened its store at Guarulhos Airport, which has an area of 60 m². Soon afterwards, Shopping Taboão da Serra, in São Paulo, received a new unit, occupying 255 m². In the first half of November, Shopping Aricanduva, the largest shopping mall in Latin America, opened a unit with an area of 373 m². Closing the cycle, at the end of November, Passeio das Águas shopping mall, in Goiânia, opened its 320 m² store.
