Man is shot dead in front of Cascavel City Hall

A man was shot dead this Monday morning (6), in front of Cascavel City Hall. According to the City Hall, the victim was a prisoner who performed janitorial work for the City. The murder occurred in front of some people who were at the scene.

According to witnesses, two men arrived at the scene and fired several shots. The Military Police and Fire Department were called and the case is under investigation.

According to the Paraná Penal Police (PPPR), the prisoner had been wearing an electronic ankle bracelet since November 23, 2023. The victim was part of the Project Working on Freedom with Dignity. PPPR reported that it is cooperating with the investigations.

In a statement, the city hall regretted what happened and reported that it is providing psychological support to people who witnessed the crime; see the note in full.

“The City of Cascavel regrets the death of a convict who carried out janitorial work for the Municipality recorded this Monday (6), in front of the Palace. The Municipality highlights that the inmates perform tasks in maintenance areas, always with great commitment and without posing any risk to citizens. The case was a one-off situation. The Military Police, Fire Department and Depen are already on site taking the appropriate measures. The Municipality team is also providing psychological support to people who witnessed the crime. The investigation remains under the responsibility of the security forces.”
