The daughter-in-law of Zeli Terezinha Silva dos Anjos, a woman who made a cake in Torres, Rio Grande do Sul, was arrested this Sunday (5). According to initial information from the Civil Police, the suspect and the elderly woman who made the cake had a disagreement. The arrested woman, whose name was not released, had her temporary arrest ordered by the court and was taken to the Torres State Women’s Prison.
The case was registered in Torres, Rio Grande do Sul, on December 23, 2024. Three people died and three were hospitalized. The woman who prepared the sweet, Zeli Terezinha, 61 years old, remains hospitalized in the ICU of Torres hospital in stable condition.
Six people from the same family eat poisoned cake
Six members of the same family sought medical attention on December 23 after showing symptoms of poisoning, which was later attributed to the consumption of a cake containing arsenic, according to an analysis by the Civil Police.
Neuza Denize Silva dos Anjos, 65 years old, and Maida Berenice Flores da Silva, 59 years old, Zeli’s sisters, and Tatiana Denize Silva dos Anjos, 47 years old, Neuza’s daughter.
Zeli, who prepared the cake, remains in the ICU in stable condition, according to the latest medical bulletin. A 10-year-old boy, Neuza’s grandson and Tatiana’s son, needed hospitalization for a few days, but is now recovering at home. Another family member, a man, was discharged after being treated.
The Civil Police are investigating the possibility of food poisoning or poisoning. In addition, an investigation was also opened into the death of the ex-husband of the woman who prepared the cake. He died in September 2024 also as a result of alleged food poisoning.
