Spending the holidays with his family in Uruguay, striker Luis Suárez helped prevent a man from committing suicide last weekend.
According to information from the newspaper Marca, the Inter Miami player was taking a walk on Saturday (4) with his wife Sofía Balbi in Ciudad de la Costa, in the department of Canelones, when he came across a man who had climbed a tree with a rope attached to the neck.
The 49-year-old individual, who has precautionary measures for domestic violence against him in court, threatened to kill himself if his partner did not appear at the scene.
Along with members of an NGO specializing in social psychology, Suárez spoke to the man to convince him to come down from the tree safely.
After around 20 hours of negotiations, the man agreed to leave the place. He was welcomed by a unit specializing in domestic violence at the Uruguayan Ministry of the Interior and received care.
“Suárez approached and what we did was try to talk in an empathetic and close way so that [a situação] it wouldn’t last so long”, said a member of the NGO identified as Andrea, speaking to the Telenoche Uruguay channel.
