In some parts of Slovakia, frost should be expected until Tuesday (January 7) morning. The same applies to wind and mountain wind. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informs about this on its website, which also issued warnings about these phenomena.
According to meteorologists, it will be freezing during the night and on Tuesday morning in the entire Banskobystrica region and in most districts of the Prešovský, Košice and Bratislava regions. “Ice formation represents a potential danger for human activities (transportation, movement of people, infrastructure – various types of lines). The occurrence of ice is common at the given time of year and area, but it can cause damage of a smaller scale,” the institute warned.
As it states on its website, warnings of the first level against wind in the mountains apply in the districts of Tvrdošín, Poprad, Liptovský Mikuláš, Ružomberok, Banská Bystrica and Brezno. During the night, the wind may increase further and the warnings will be raised to level two. At night and on Tuesday morning in the mountains, the wind speed can reach 160 kilometers per hour in gusts. The warnings of the first degree will then tentatively continue during Tuesday.
In the districts of Tvrdošín, Poprad and Kežmarok, at the same time, according to SHMÚ, first-level wind warnings apply until the morning. Its speed can reach 70 kilometers per hour in impacts.
