What war bloggers say in Russia
Reports from Russian war bloggers, who support Russia’s war in Ukraine but often criticize the failures of Russian troops, point out that this latest Ukrainian offensive has put Russian forces on the defensive.
“Despite heavy pressure from the enemy, our units are heroically holding on to their lines,” the Operativnye Svodki network reported.
Reports from the Russian Defense Ministry and bloggers say the fighting is taking place north of a highway linking Shuja, near the border, with Kursk, the regional capital.
Since August 2024, Ukraine has occupied hundreds of square kilometers in the Russian border region of Kursk, mainly controlling the small town of Shuja.
The head of Ukraine’s presidential administration, Andriy Yermak, posted a message on Telegram, without directly confirming the Ukrainian moves. “Kursk region, good news. Russia gets what it deserves.”
“Russia is under attack from many sides”
Andrii Kovalenko, an official with Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said the Russians were “under attack from many sides, which took them by surprise.”
For its part, the Mash channel on Telegram, which is close to the Russian authorities, reported that “men of the Ukrainian army are moving in small groups. The total number of their troops amounts to 2,000.”
According to Russian military bloggers, Ukrainian forces are mainly trying to take control of Berdine, a small community located about 20 kilometers from the border between Ukraine and Russia.
This new offensive in Russia’s Kursk region by the Ukrainian military comes two weeks before the return to the White House of Donald Trump, who has advocated an “immediate” ceasefire and vowed to broker a peace deal to end “the massacre”, without however giving details of his plan.
