Unusual: whole milk saves second Portuguese football league game

The heavy rain that hit several areas in the north of the country on Sunday morning caused the delay of the game between União Desportiva Oliveirense and Felgueiras, in League 2. The pitch at the Carlos Osório Stadium, in Oliveira de Azeméis, was flooded, and the lines of the field have become virtually invisible, forcing the use of an unusual solution to solve the problem.

Given the situation and no paint available to reinforce the markings, those responsible for the field decided to resort to an unconventional solution: whole milk. This was placed in the warehouse of machines used to paint the lines, allowing them to become visible again and meet the necessary conditions for the start of the match. More than six liters were used to ensure the start of the game. Despite heavy rain, the markings were reinforced during the break, allowing the match to continue without further incident.

According to , the heavy morning rainfall not only affected the ground conditions but also delayed the start of the meeting. The match, initially scheduled to start at the usual time, had to be postponed by 15 minutes, in order to allow the field to be prepared and ensure the safety of the players.

Despite the delay, the game went ahead normally after the problem caused by bad weather was resolved. This episode stood out for the unusual use of milk to restore the markings on the lawn, demonstrating the need for improvisation in the face of adverse conditions. In the end, Felgueiras emerged victorious, defeating União Desportiva Oliveirense by 0-3.

According to , it is important to note that this practice is widely used in England, where bad weather often causes the same type of problem in football matches.
