Works destroyed in the coup attacks of January 8, 2023 were restored and returned to Palácio do Planalto, this Monday (6).

Three items were unloaded from a truck and went up the palace ramp, wrapped in bubble wrap: the work “As mulattas”, by Di Cavalcanti; the wood sculpture by Frans Krajcberg; and the bronze sculpture “The Pied Piper”, by Bruno Giorgi.

In total, 20 works were restored in a laboratory with specialists created at Palácio da Alvorada, and will be reintegrated into the presidency’s collection. It was only restored in Switzerland, at no cost to the Brazilian government. He will arrive at Planalto on Tuesday.

The works will be presented in acts, this Wednesday (8), to mark the two-year anniversary in Planalto of the attacks on the headquarters of the three Powers.

Planalto announced, at the time, that the watch belonged to Louis XIV’s watchmaker, and that there is only one other of this, on display at the Palace of Versailles — its value was considered “inestimable”.

Di Cavalcanti’s painting was the main piece in the Noble Hall and was found with seven tears, of different sizes. At the time, its estimated value was around R$8 million.

Krajcberg’s piece, which is made of wooden branches, was broken in several places. Its estimated value is R$300,000.

The bronze sculpture, by Bruno Giorgi, was completely destroyed, with pieces found throughout the palace hall, according to the government. The value of the piece is estimated at R$250,000.

Last year, the government announced the creation of a laboratory at Palácio da Alvorada to revitalize and recover the works vandalized by coup plotters in January 2023.

The two-year anniversary of January 8, 2023 will have a ceremony at Palácio do Planalto, in , followed by an act with left-wing activists in Praça dos Três Poderes.

According to Secom (Secretariat of Social Communication of the Presidency), the president () will participate next Wednesday in the presentation of works of art that had been vandalized — and have now been restored — and in a ceremony with authorities at the Palácio do Planalto. The presidents of the Powers and governors were invited.

Afterwards, the head of the Executive will participate in a symbolic embrace of the Praça dos Três Poderes in an event called by the Frente Brasil Popular, a social movement.
