João Vieira, trainer at CrossFit Viana do Castelo, performed an act of heroism on January 2nd, saving a couple from a burning house in Carreço, Viana do Castelo. The couple made a point of visiting him at the gym to personally thank him for the gesture that saved their lives.
The gym shared the story on its Facebook page, praising João Vieira’s courage: “While driving in Carreço, he saw a house on fire. Without hesitation, he turned around, entered the house and helped a couple who had not realized the seriousness of the situation to get out safely. Then, he used a hose from the backyard to contain the fire until the firefighters arrived.”
The publication also highlighted the coach’s example of courage and altruism: “In a world where we often withdraw into indifference, João showed what it means to act with bravery. He went on with his life without fanfare, but the couple made a point of publicly honoring him.”
The gym concluded the message with words of gratitude and pride: “In addition to being one of the best CrossFit coaches in Portugal, you were a hero for a day. Thank you, João, for your inspiring gesture.”
