According to data from Urbanização de Curitiba (Urbs), 153.8 thousand passengers used buses in the capital of Paraná last Sunday, compared to 115.6 thousand in the same period last year.

Last week, the mayor of Curitiba, Eduardo Pimentel (PSD), signed decree 35/2025 and established half-fares on Sundays and holidays in the capital of Paraná. This was the chief executive’s first act.

The half fare of R$3 applies to all 242 bus lines in Curitiba, with the exception of the Turismo Line. Payment can be made in cash, Urbs transport card and credit and debit cards (in the case of the latter two, card operators charge a fee of R$0.07 per ticket, totaling R$3.07 ).

“We had a very good result this first Sunday and the tendency is for this number to grow a lot in the next ones as people return from the end of year holidays. The measure has a cascading beneficial effect on the city’s economy. The population saves money on the one hand and on the other it helps to move restaurants, fairs, snack bars and the commerce of vendors in the parks”, explains the president of Urbanização de Curitiba (Urbs), Ogeny Pedro Maia Neto.

Pimentel also pointed out that he does not intend to increase the R$6 fare on other days in the capital of Paraná in 2025.
