More and more people are looking for ways to enrich their diet with natural ingredients. One of them is drying fruits and herbs yourself, which allows you to enjoy your favorite flavors all year round, regardless of the season. We suggest how to do it.
Fruits such as citrus fruits, apples, raspberries, strawberries, but also herbs such as mint can be an excellent addition to tea, giving it a unique aroma and taste. Although there is no shortage of ready-made tea and fruit mixtures on the market, preparing your own dried additives is not only satisfying, but also allows full control over the composition of the infusion. Drying food yourself is also a way to avoid preservatives and artificial flavors.
- The first step is to thoroughly wash the citrus fruits, preferably with a vegetable brush and cover them with boiling water.
- Then we cut them into slices about 5 mm thick. The easiest way is to use a fruit dryer, which will cope with the task in about 4 hours.
- For those who do not have specialized equipment, an oven can be an alternative. Place the slices on baking paper and dry in a hot-air oven at 80 degrees Celsius for about 4 hours, making sure to turn them over.
However, there is a much more economical and pleasant option.
- In autumn and winter, you can easily use the heat from the radiators. Although this process is longer and can take up to a week, it has another advantage. Thanks to this, the whole apartment will also smell wonderful. The wonderful aroma of citrus fruits appears after only a few hours of drying.
- After drying, the fruit is ready for use.
- Just add the fruit to the teapot and adjust the proportions according to your preferences. However, it should be remembered that stronger teas will require more ingredients to bring out the flavor.
