Discover the method that promises to keep onions fresh for up to six months

Preserving onions properly is crucial to prolonging their freshness and ensuring they remain in good condition for consumption. In one of his videos shared on YouTube, vegetarian chef Jerry James Stone, known for sharing simple yet sophisticated recipes, explained an effective trick for preserving foods, including onions, for up to “six months.” This method helps prevent onions from quickly losing quality and becoming unfit for consumption.

According to chef Jerry Stone, onions should not be stored in the refrigerator. When stored at low temperatures, they tend to become soft and rot quickly. The refrigerator, with its humidity, is not the ideal environment to keep onions fresh for longer. Furthermore, the chef warns that they should not be stored in closed pantries or places without good ventilation. According to him, onions “prefer dry, cool spaces with good air circulation”, which helps prevent them from rotting prematurely.

On the other hand, it is important to keep in mind that they should not be stored close to potatoes. According to , this is because the contact between onions and potatoes causes them to sprout more quickly, damaging their durability. To avoid this problem, it is recommended to keep the two foods in separate locations.

The most effective method, according to chef Jerry Stone, is to store onions next to garlic, as both foods are preserved under the same conditions. If stored this way, in a cool and well-ventilated environment, the chef guarantees that they can last up to six months without losing their freshness.
