Journalist and former senator Ana Amélia Lemos and lawyer Vitor Marques discussed, this Monday (6), in The Great Debate (Monday to Friday, at 11pm), whether the change of command in the ministries can help resolve problems in the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
Lula is expected to confirm a change in the coming days for the position of minister of the Secretariat of Social Communication (Secom) — publicist Sidônio Palmeira replacing the current minister, Paulo Pimenta.
Meanwhile, allies of the current president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), with the aim of resolving a possible internal irregularity in the government and improving political coordination between the Powers.
The first exchanges must take place within the Palácio do Planalto and only then be extended to the ministries.
For Vitor Marques, the changes of ministers seem to be related to the changes in the presidencies of the Chamber and the Senate, which also take place in February.
“A possible mini-ministerial reform has more to do with this change in the Chamber and the Senate, which will reorganize the political forces and which will require a composition that can continue approving projects in the National Congress”, said Marques.
“This government, as it is a center-left government, has the challenge of expanding its democratic composition towards the center to prepare for the 2026 election”, he continued.
For Ana Amélia, changes to the folders can partially solve the problems, but “it is not essential”.
“The essential thing is the proposal that the government has. There is no point in changing the messenger and not changing the message”, said the former senator.
“Changing the ministerial team will have political significance, to help the government, in matters of relationship with the National Congress. But it does not resolve society’s perception of an efficient government”, he concluded.
