Do you want to put a potted Christmas tree in your garden? Due to this error, it may not be accepted

After the holidays, many people wonder what to do with theirs. If we decide to have a tree in a pot, it does not have to end up in the trash, because we can plant the Christmas tree in the ground in our garden. Thanks to this, we will decorate the property for many years. However, we need to know what mistakes to avoid during this process so that the tree will be accepted in the garden.

The key to success if we want to put our Christmas tree in the garden is what we do with it after the holiday season ends.. It is definitely a mistake to take it outside immediately. This is because the tree has been in a warm place for several weeks, so placing it in the frost will make it thermal shock will damage and the roots of the Christmas tree.

However, if the tree stayed with us for an exceptionally short time and stayed at home for up to 6 days, we can immediately move it to the balcony or garden, remembering to cover the pot with jute fabric or a straw mat. It is best to place the pot with the Christmas tree in a quiet place without direct sunlight.

However, if our Christmas tree was normally kept warm for a longer time, then it should be moved to a bright and cool room where it will wait until spring. While leaving it there, do not forget to water the tree regularly. When the frosts stop, we can move the plant to the garden. Thanks to this, we will safely bring it out of its resting state.

It often happens that after planting a potted Christmas tree in the ground in the garden, the tree does not take root and withers after a few weeks. There may be several reasons for this state of affairs. Therefore, it is worth knowing what not to do so that you can enjoy a beautiful Christmas tree in your garden. Here are the most common mistakes:

  • Improper tree care during the holiday season – many people do not pay attention to the conditions provided to their Christmas tree after bringing it home. What harms the tree the most is a room that is too warm and improper watering. These factors cause the roots to lose their ability to absorb water and the Christmas tree to lose its needles. Therefore, you should place the tree away from heat sources and remember to water it regularly and moderately so that the ground in which the Christmas tree grows is constantly slightly moist.
  • Damaged root system – We can make this mistake already at the stage of buying a tree, if we are not aware that some Christmas trees were dug or cut out of the ground before being sold and only placed in a pot. The result is a pruned and damaged root system, which means that our Christmas tree has very little chance of establishing itself in the garden. Therefore, it is worth purchasing a tree consciously, choosing one that has been grown in containers from the beginning.
  • Moving the tree too quickly – the best time to plant a tree in the garden is early spring, when the soil is moist and temperatures are higher. Moving the Christmas tree earlier may result in the above-mentioned thermal shock. In addition, when planting the tree, remember to properly prepare the hole. It should be twice as large as the root ball of the Christmas tree. Let’s also make sure that after planting the plant, we mulch the soil around the trunk so that the roots do not lose moisture.
