The forgotten part of the glass
“Most people use a mason jar all or part of it. But few people know what treasure is hidden in the lid,” says one of our readers, Mrs. Hana from Kroměříž, and continues: “This type of lid is made of durable metal that seals perfectly and is resistant to different temperatures. You can use this to make various household items. Which ones? Here is the inspiration…
Make a bird feeder
In winter, birds have a “lean period” when they scavenge for every bit of food. Do you want to give them something to improve? Make a feeder for them from a lid and grains. How to do it: Prepare several clean lids and use a knife to cut out the inside of them so that only the edges remain. Thread a piece of twine through each of the “rings” and tie a knot at the ends. This will give you a hanging “eyelet”.
Bird’s beak
Now is the right time to prepare the bird changer. How to make it: Mix 3 and ½ cups of any seeds, ¾ cup of flour, 1 package of gelatin and ½ cup of water. Mix everything and fill the prepared “wheels” from the lids with the resulting mixture. Press the surface with your fingers to make it smooth. Let the filling dry in the lid for 24 hours and then hang the feeder in any place. Delights bird diners.
Plant names
Save old lids from canning jars for spring. They can be useful for making name tags for plants or trees. How to do it: Wash and dry any lids. In the middle of them, write the name of the plant with a waterproof marker.
Glue the other side of the lid with a hot melt gun to a stick or narrow piece of wood that you will plant in the flower bed. Thanks to this “pull” you will be sure to know exactly what kind of greenery you have in your garden. If you want, you can also make symbols for the name tag, which care the plant needs.
