Qatar Airways recently announced the resumption of flights to the Syrian capital after almost 13 years.
On Tuesday, international commercial flights resumed at Syria’s main airport in Damascus for the first time since the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad. TASR reports according to the AFP agency.
The Syrian Airlines flight to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates took off shortly before 10:00 a.m. The last international commercial flight from the airport departed on December 8. “Today marks a new beginning,” said the director of Damascus airport.
Planes with international aid and foreign diplomatic delegations have landed in Syria before. The first domestic flight took place to Aleppo ten days after the ouster of Assad.
