The most common thing is to go to your bank counter when depositing money, however, if you arrive at the weekend and realize that you forgot to make a deposit, know that you don’t need to wait for the next business day. Many Portuguese people still don’t know that it is possible to deposit money at an ATM without any associated costs.
Many Portuguese people are used to using ATMs to make cash withdrawals and check transactions, but you can also make deposits there. According to , depositing money at an ATM, in addition to being a simple process, is free if done using a debit card. On the other hand, if you want to carry out this procedure with a credit card, you will have to pay the inherent costs.
Please also note that you can only deposit money at the ATM if the bank supporting the ATM is the same as your card issuer. In practical terms, if you are a Caixa Geral de Depósitos customer, for example, you can only deposit money at ATMs that belong to Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
To proceed with depositing money through an ATM, after entering your secret code, you will need to select the “Deliveries and Deposits” option. Then, choose one of the two options: “Deposit Banknotes into Own Account” or “Deposit Banknotes into Another Account”. Finally, you will have to insert the banknotes you want to deposit into the ATM slot that has the indication “Insert Banknotes and Checks” and which will be illuminated in green at that moment for easy identification.
Once the money is inserted, the ATM will automatically count the notes and their value. When you click continue, you will receive a receipt.
