The Federal Court’s decision to deploy public security forces to protect indigenous communities in Guaíra (PR) and Terra Roxa (PR) will be one of the highlights of RIC Notícias Noite this Monday (6).
Last Friday (3), four indigenous people, including a child, in an attack near the city of Guaíra.
The shots were aimed at the Avá Guaranis, who have been suffering attacks since December 29th as part of land disputes, according to the Indigenous Missionary Council (Cimi), an organization linked to the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB).
The court decision requires, among other measures, the immediate increase in the number of Federal Police, National Force and Military Police in the region, as long as the Yvy Okaju persist.
The decision highlights the importance of measures being carried out in a coordinated manner between the security forces involved and integrated with the indigenous community, respecting the autonomy, knowledge and dignity of indigenous peoples in their territories.
The police said they have already started investigations to determine the authorship and criminal responsibility of those involved. Federal, state and municipal forces were deployed to help combat violence in the region, which has historically been the scene of conflicts over land.
The Ministry of Indigenous Peoples condemned the violence against the Avá Guarani people, saying it is talking to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security to carry out an immediate investigation into armed groups operating in the region.
