President speaks on the phone with actress who won the Golden Globe and says the award could not have come at a “better” time, 2 days after the event in “defense of democracy” to “fight fascists”
The president (PT) called on Monday night (Jan 6, 2025) and congratulated him on the . He took advantage of the award to promote the event organized by the government in memory of January 8, 2023. According to the PT member, the Brazilian’s victory in the international event could not have come at a time “better”.
The actress was awarded for her portrayal of Eunice Paiva (1929-2018), wife of Rubens Paiva (1929-1971), a deputy impeached and killed during the Brazilian civic-military dictatorship, in the film “I’m Still Here”. The feature film was directed by Walter Salles.
“Brazil deserved this. And above all, this happens to you with 2 days left for us to carry out the act in defense of democracy […] I want to see if we can turn 2025 into a year defending democracy, against the extreme right and against fascists“, said Lula.
The event to remember when extremists invaded and vandalized the buildings of the National Congress, the Palácio do Planalto and the (Supreme Federal Court) will be held at Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília, on Wednesday (8th January), starting at 11am .

The film “I’m Still Here” is based on the work of writer Marcelo Rubens Paiva, son of Eunice de Paiva.
Fernanda Torres beat Hollywood stars like Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet to win the trophy. The actress’s achievement represents the breaking of Brazilian cinema’s Golden Globes fast, which had already lasted 26 years.
