The Minister of Internal Administration ordered the collection of 81 fire engines similar to the one that was involved in a raid last week, in the Odemira region. One firefighter died and four others suffered serious injuries.
As The vehicles in question are used to combat forest firesacquired under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and delivered by which included the Odemira Firefighters firefighting vehicle involved in the fatal accident.
“It was inevitable”given public pressure over the accident, which “these vehicles were withdrawn from circulation while the investigation is not completed”said Antônio Nunes.

António Nunes also announced that LBP created a technical committee made up of five elements to assess the safety of all vehicles assigned to fire departments, whether ambulances or firefighting vehicles.
The president of LBP explained that the commission will investigate some of the biggest accidents of the last three years which caused bodily harm to firefighters, highlighting that many of the disasters happen at reduced speeds.
