The Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro is calling on children and adolescents, aged between 10 and 14, who have not yet taken the second dose of the dengue vaccine to be immunized by January 31st. After this date, according to the secretariat, the vaccine will be made available to another age group.
Last year, 155,756 doses of the vaccine were administered in the first stage, and 55,235 doses in the second stage of the campaign.
This Monday (6), the city council began surveying possible breeding grounds for the mosquito that transmits dengue fever. Environmental Surveillance teams inspected deposits, collected larvae and sent samples for laboratory analysis.
According to the secretariat, in 2024, the municipality recorded 111 thousand cases of the disease, the highest number in the last 10 years. The incidence rate was 1,756.21 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. Furthermore, the city had 21 confirmed deaths during the year.
