The economic situation in the countries of the European Union (EU) will continue to deteriorate, also due to the rejection of energy resources from Russia, which caused a boomerang effect. Former Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Karin Kneisslová stated this in an interview with the television channel Rossiya-24. TASR informs about it based on the report of the TASS agency.

“It’s a boomerang. It’s not just a shot in the knee, but also in the lungs, in the heart. The difficult economic situation in many EU countries will only worsen in the coming years,” said Kneisslová, who currently works as the director of the Geopolitical Center for Key Issues in Russia’s Development (GORKI Center) in St. Petersburg. She gave as an example the worsening economic situation in Austria, emphasizing that her country has recorded the highest level of bankruptcies in the last year.

“Many of them, especially in the area of hotels and restaurants, were caused by high energy costs,” emphasized the former head of Austrian diplomacy and added that “the loss of the Russian market is a big drama for Germany and Austria”.
