The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT)stated that Brazil is well positioned, faced with a challenging external scenario, and that it should reach 2026 in a comfortable situation. He gave an interview to GloboNews.
“I believe we can get there well in 2026. I hope we can even eat filet mignon,” said the minister, in response to a question about whether the government would end this administration with picanha on Brazilians’ plates, as the president promised. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
Haddad assesses that Brazil is better positioned than its neighbors, given an uncertain international scenario, depending on the measures to be taken by the future government of Donald Trump. He highlighted that the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union (EU) could be interesting for the region’s prospects and mentioned Brazil’s leadership in this process.
For the minister, the country needs to benefit from the competitive advantages it has, in addition to taking advantage of new regulations, such as carbon credit, fuel of the future and new industry Brazil, which are well-structured programs to boost Brazil’s development.
Climate crisis, dollar and food inflation
Haddad said he believes that the dollar will settle and argued that the government is paying attention to food inflation. “There is seasonality, there are climate problems, there is a slide in the dollar, all of this is true, but the government is working to alleviate the problem and resolve it structurally with the tax reform”, stated the minister, citing the approval of the tax reform on consumption that provides for the inclusion of meat in the exempt basic food basket.
According to Haddad, the Ministry of Agriculture is working to make food prices settle at a lower level, as happened in 2023.

“Last year we had a flood that flooded an entire state, which is a heavily food-producing state.
