Amanda Caroline Resende de Oliveira, 29 years old, felt ill with symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting; the cause of death is investigated
The municipality of Cristais Paulista, in the region of Franca, in the interior of São Paulo, confirmed this Monday (6 January 2025) the death of Amanda Caroline Resende de Oliveira, 29 years old, who underwent treatment on Saturday (4 January) in the city’s emergency care unit.
Amanda was at a farm in the city when she fell ill, on Saturday (Jan 4), with diarrhea and vomiting. Before that, she was on the coast of São Paulo, a region experiencing a virus outbreak.
According to the Secretary of Health, Thaisa Barion, it is not yet possible to confirm the cause of death, which is being investigated by the Death Verification Service. Relatives of the victim also presented the same symptoms, but with a better evolution.
The State is facing an outbreak of gastrointestinal viruses in Guarujá and nearby municipalities, with reports of an increase in demand for health facilities in the last two weeks and around 2,000 people with related symptoms.
The victim was laid to rest on Monday afternoon (Jan 6) in Franca.
