Former President Jair Bolsonaro said this Tuesday that he was invited to Donald Trump’s inauguration as President of the United States, and that his lawyer asked Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), to release his passport for so he can go to Washington.
“Very honored to receive an invitation from the President of the USA, @realDonaldTrump, to his inauguration and from his vice-president @JDVance, on 20/JAN”, wrote Bolsonaro on his account on the X platform.
“My lawyer, Dr. Paulo Bueno, has already sent a request to Minister Alexandre de Moraes for me to get my passport back so I can attend this honorable and important historical event”, he added.
Lawyer Fabio Wajngarten, who was head of the Presidency’s Social Communication Secretariat in the Bolsonaro government and acts as an advisor to the former president, confirmed to Reuters the invitation and request from Bolsonaro’s defense to release the passport.
Bolsonaro’s passport is withheld by the courts amid investigations against him at the STF, including the one investigating an alleged attempted coup d’état.
