A 32-year-old Brazilian woman died last Friday (3) after falling from the window of an apartment in the city of Breda, in the Netherlands. The floor from which she fell was not known.
There is no information about the circumstances of the death of Taiany Caroline Martins Matos, who was from the Federal District.
According to the family, on December 27, the woman went to Paris, France, with her boyfriend, a 53-year-old Dutch man, identified only as Edgar. They spent New Year’s Eve in the French capital and then returned to Paris.
“Last Saturday (4), we received a call from Edgar saying that she [Taiany] went out with her friends. The next day he simply said that our sister died, apologized and hung up”, says Cauã Martins, 20, Taiany’s brother.
To CNN, the Dutch police reported that, “on January 3 of this year, a woman died in Breda” and that preliminary investigations indicate that there were no signs of crime. The corporation did not provide any other information “for privacy reasons”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is following the case and is in contact with local authorities. He also said that the consulate provides “consular assistance to the victim’s family”.
Due to the Access to Information Law, the ministry adds that “it does not provide detailed information on individual cases of assistance to Brazilian citizens”.
The Consulate General of Brazil in Amsterdam informed that it is committed to “ensuring that the necessary support is granted within legal and administrative competencies to support the family at this difficult time”.
