The Blues and Whites will also deliberate on the appeals of four other members, who were expelled from the club.
FC Porto will deliberate on the appeals presented by six members, including Fernando and Sandra Madureiraboth defendants in the , in an extraordinary General Assembly (AG), the club announced this Tuesday.
“The meeting aims to assess, in light of the information contained in the disciplinary procedures and the appeals presented, whether the decisions to apply sanctions by the Fiscal and Disciplinary Council (CFD) should be maintained”, explains the call signed by the president of the Board of General Assembly (MAG) ‘blue and white’, Antonio Tavares.
The main meeting will start at 09:00 on January 18that the Pavilhão Dragão Arena, in Porto, two months after Fernando Madureira, Sandra Madureira, Vítor Catão and Vítor Oliveira, all accused in Operation Praetorian, were made members of FC Porto by the CFD.
In addition to Fernando Madureira, former leader of the Super Dragões and the only defendant in pre-trial detention, they were expelled Sandra Madureirahis wife and former vice-president of that fan base for FC Porto, Victor Catoclub fan and former president of São Pedro da Cova, who is under house arrest with electronic surveillance, and Vítor Oliveira.
The process was initiated on January 31, 2024, as part of the investigation into the extraordinary GA of the ‘blue and white’ emblem, on November 13, 2023, at Dragão Arena, resulting in the arrest of 12 people.
Carlos Nunes, another of the accused, was suspended for 12 months, receiving double the sentence imposed on Fernando Saul, former liaison officer with FC Porto fans and also involved in that accusation, José Dias, Paulo Moura, Manuel Barros and Sergio Ferreira.
The targeted partners had 30 days to appeal the CFD’s opinion, and the four expulsions and suspensions of Saul and Manuel Barros will be assessed at the AG’s headquarters.
In August 2024, the management of FC Porto, chaired by André Villas-Boas, revealed that it would formally participate with the associates accused in Operation Praetorian, with a view to the initiation of disciplinary proceedings by the body led by Angelino Ferreira.
On December 5, just over two weeks after the measures determined by FC Porto’s CFD, the Porto Criminal Instruction Court (TIC) brought to trial in the exact terms of the accusation the 12 defendants of Operation Praetorian.
The prosecution by the Public Ministry (MP) denounces a possible attempt by the Super Dragões to create “a climate of intimidation and fear” at an AG of FC Porto to approve a statutory review “in the interest of the management” of the club, then led by Pinto da Costa.
At issue are a total of: 19 of coercion and aggravated threat, seven of offense to physical integrity in the context of a sporting spectacle, one of public instigation of a crime, another of throwing objects or liquid products and three of attacks on freedom of information .
Hugo Carneiroalso with links to the Super Dragões, is also accused of possession of a prohibited weapon, and the MP requires additional penalties of banning access to sports venues for those accused of between one and five years.
FC Porto and SAD, the manager of ‘blue and white’ professional football, have become assistants to Operation Praetorian, whose trial does not yet have a location or date set.
