Flamengo’s new football director, Portuguese José Boto, held a press conference this Wednesday and took advantage of the meeting with journalists to strengthen his relationship with coach Filipe Luís, a remnant of the previous administration chaired by Rodolfo Landim, and who lost the elections to the new club representative: Luiz Eduardo Baptista, Bap.
After stating that the former left-back’s stay in charge of the professional team had been approved, the director praised the current coach and said that he has the chance to make history.
“Contact (between the two) has been daily since the 18th and now, with him here, it is easier and more personal. Everything I said on the first day, I maintain: Filipe Luís is someone I see with a bright future”, commented Boto.
During the interview, Boto stated that he arrived in Brazil with an unusual mission. End the winning phase of Portuguese coaches in the country, which gained the spotlight of the sporting scene with the arrival of Jorge Jesus, at Flamengo itself.
Soon after, Abel Ferreira also arrived here and started a series of titles at Palmeiras. The most recent case refers to rival Botafogo. The club led by John Textor won the Libertadores and the 2024 Brazilian Championship under the orders of compatriot Artur Jorge.
“I want to be the Portuguese director who will end the hegemony of Portuguese coaches in Brazil. This will happen through Filipe. Nothing better than Filipe to end this scenario”, commented the director.
At a time when attention is focused on the arrival and departure of athletes as it is the beginning of the season, Boto took advantage of the interview to say that matters relating to signings will be handled internally.
