The mayor of Rio, (PSD), and that of Niterói, (PDT), met this Tuesday (7) to define the initiatives that will be part of the plan to host the 2031 Pan American Games.
Among the new features are the construction of 5 Olympic educational gymnasiums in Niterói and 8 in Rio, in addition to the use of 12 already existing in the capital of Rio de Janeiro — totaling 25, therefore.
The gymnasiums function as full-time elementary schools focused on sports, and would be used to reveal talents.
The Olympic Village will be in the port region of Rio, close to existing facilities in Niterói, such as the new Concha Acústica and the Aída dos Santos Complex.
The two cities will deliver the document with the candidacy guidelines to the (Brazilian Olympic Committee) next week. In the country, they compete with the city of São Paulo, which also expressed interest in hosting the event.
Brazil can only have one representative in the dispute with the organizer Panam Sports, which will be defined by the COB in January.
The host city for the event will be chosen in August next year. The city of Asunción (Paraguay) defined its candidacy and will compete with the Brazilian representative.
