Ann Altman filed a lawsuit in the United States on Monday (6 January 2025) accusing her brother, the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, of sexual abuse during childhood. She is seeking damages in excess of $75,000.

Sam on Tuesday (7th January) a letter on X (ex-Twitter) signed by him, his mother and 2 brothers. “Annie has made completely false and damaging statements about our family, and especially about Sam”, says the text.

According to the lawsuit (in English – PDF – 221 kB), the abuse began when Ann was 3 years old and lasted for 9 years, from 1997 to 2006. The abuse occurred, according to the lawsuit, “several times a week“. Sam Altman teria”prepared and handled” the sister to “believe that sexual acts” they were “her idea”.

Sam was born on April 22, 1985. At the time his sister says he began being abused, he would have been 11 to 12 years old. He was already of legal age by the time the abuse ended.

Our family loves Annie and is very concerned about her well-being. Caring for a family member facing mental health challenges is incredibly difficult”, but-se na carta.

Over the years, we have tried in many ways to support Annie and help her find stability by following professional advice on how to be supportive without enabling harmful behaviors.”, says the text.

Sam and his family said they provided financial support – paying bills and offering to buy a house, for example.

Through our late father’s estate, Annie receives monthly financial support, which we hope will continue for the rest of her life. Despite this, Annie continues to demand more money from us.”they declared.

They stated that over the years, Ann did “several accusations” against family members. “The worst allegation she has made is that she was sexually abused by Sam as a child (she has also alleged instances of sexual abuse from others). His accusations have evolved drastically over time. Recently for this process, they now include incidents where Sam was over 18”, they said.

All of these accusations are completely false. This situation causes immense pain to our entire family. It’s especially hurtful when she refuses conventional treatment and lashes out at family members who are genuinely trying to help.”, they declared.
