PM predicts 1,400 people at the 8/1 event and two caravans – 01/08/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The Military Police of the Federal District expects around 1,400 people to attend Praça dos Três Poderes for the ceremony that will commemorate the coup acts of 2023.

According to the Integrated Actions Program prepared for the event in Brasília, two caravans are expected from Goiânia, the majority of which will be members of trade unions and social movements.

See the schedule for January 8th:

  • The event begins at 9 am with the president () in the audience room of Palácio do Planalto where the symbolic delivery of Dom João 6º’s clock and the Portuguese ceramic amphora, destroyed in the coup acts, will take place.

  • Soon after, on the mezzanine of the Executive headquarters, the work “As Mulatas”, by Di Cavalcanti, will be returned, with the participation of children.

  • Still at Planalto, a ceremony will take place in the main hall, at 11 am, with the participation of more than 100 authorities, including deputies, senators, ministers and governors.

  • At around 12:30 pm, Lula will walk down the Planalto ramp accompanied by the first lady, Janja, and will join the public who will be at Praça dos Três Poderes for a “hug to democracy”. In the space, there will be a flower arrangement that will have the word democracy written on it.

The DF security forces and the GSI (Institutional Security Office) expect the participation of 400 people during the internal event at Planalto. It is estimated that another thousand people will be in the square for the symbolic hug.

According to the security organization chart, there will be no fences separating the president from the public at the time of the hug. Security for the event was the responsibility of the GSI, which will have additional staff.

The Government of the Federal District installed an intelligence unit to monitor social networks and identify movements that could indicate suspicious activities during the event.

The (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) identified three acts that will take place this Wednesday in defense of those convicted of January 8, one of the biggest attacks on democracy. Supporters of the former president () left a camp set up in front of the Army HQ.

The (Federal Supreme Court) has already sentenced 375 defendants for what resulted in the indictment of 1,682 people involved.
