A survey conducted by Procon in São Paulo brought to light a surprising variation in prices in stationery stores in the capital of São Paulo, reaching an impressive 268.75%. The survey, carried out on December 16th and 17th, focused on 132 common items on school supply lists, such as notebooks, pens and colored pencils. The biggest discrepancy was observed in a 30 cm ruler, with prices ranging between R$1.60 and R$5.90 in different establishments. Another notable example was the 80-sheet spiral notebook, whose price ranged from R$15.75 to R$30.90.

Given these variations, Procon advises consumers to adopt strategies to save money, such as researching prices and reusing materials already available at home. Furthermore, it suggests exchanging textbooks between students and carrying out collective purchases, which can result in significant discounts when purchasing large quantities.
