President Lula remembers the 2 years since January 8th this Wednesday (Jan 8, 2025); the event has ministers and heads of the Armed Forces

First lady Janja Lula da Silva spoke this Wednesday (8.jan.2025) in a ceremony with 4 acts at the Palácio do Planalto and Praça dos Três Poderes, 2 years after the 8th of January, when extremists vandalized the headquarters of the Três Poderes Powers, in Brasília.

In his speech, Janja said that the act is a way of celebrating and reinforcing democracy, in addition to handing over to the Brazilian people their fully restored heritage. According to her, it was “the will of the Brazilian people to fight for democratic freedoms” which prevented a coup d’état from being launched in 2023. Here is (PDF – 68.8 KB).

“Two years have passed since the terrible day when our eyes refused to believe what they were seeing. On January 1, 2023, we were experiencing a historic moment of hope and new times.

“We felt that love had conquered hate. A week later, hate occupied that space trying to suffocate hope. But they couldn’t, and today we are here. Two years after the attempted destruction of our democracy and the buildings that symbolize the powers of the Republic, we are here not to mourn, much less to forget. We are here to celebrate and reinforce democracy and to hand over to the Brazilian people their fully restored heritage.”he declared.
