United States stocks closed lower on Tuesday (7), after a set of positive economic data raised concerns that a rebound in inflation could slow the pace of the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy easing.
Stocks gave up early gains after a U.S. Labor Department report showed job openings rose unexpectedly in November, while other data showed service sector activity accelerated in December, in a measure tracking input prices rising to the highest level in almost two years.
According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 lost 1.11%, to 5,909.54 points.
The Nasdaq technology index fell 1.89% to 19,489.21 points. The Dow Jones fell 0.42% to 42,527.50 points.
