Alckmin defends regulation of big techs – 01/09/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The vice-president () defended the need to hold big techs accountable and that regulating platforms is essential. The statement was made during an interview with Rádio Eldorado this Thursday morning (9).

“It is not possible for you to have a platform with a global presence, without responsibility, without accountability. You cannot misinform people, you cannot slander, lie, defame, you need to have responsibility. Living in society has rights and duties”, he stated .

The CEO of , , announced last Tuesday (07) changes to the company’s content moderation practices, including , created in 2016, with the aim of combating misinformation on the company’s platforms.

Alckmin also praised the speech of the minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), who stated that the . “I liked the minister’s statement, as he said, ‘look, Brazil is not a land without law, there is law here and anyone who doesn’t comply with the law won’t participate’.”

In a statement during a Supreme Court event on , Moraes stated that platforms will only be able to continue operating if they respect the legislation, highlighting that “regardless of the bravado of big tech managers”, compliance with the law is fundamental.
