More than a dozen hunting associations in the municipality of Castro Marim received, at the end of 2024, financial support to continue the fire prevention plan, with actions to clean fuel management strips and the creation of new seedbeds.
The support delivery ceremony took place in the Noble Hall of the Castro Marim City Council and was attended by the municipal executive, Civil Protection and the Algarve Hunters Federation. During the event, the importance of the protocol established for the protection of the territory and defense against fires was highlighted.
This protocol includes the installation and maintenance of dryland sown annual pastures on integrated fuel management strips in associational and municipal hunting areas. This is a structural measure for the Defense of the Forest Against Fires and soil conservation, contributing to the control of spontaneous vegetation.
The initiative also aims to mitigate the effects of climate change and create a defense network against rural fires, with bands strategically deployed under the coordination of the Municipality’s technical forestry services.
This protocol with hunting communities and managers of associative or municipal hunting areas will continue in 2025, with a new investment of around 60 thousand euros for intervention in an area of 51 hectares, reinforcing prevention and environmental conservation in the municipality.
