Almost fifteen years after taking charge of the team, Didier Deschamps will leave the French national team next year. The 2026 World Cup will be the coach’s last commitment to his country, which he has defended since 2012.

“It will be 2026. I’ve been here since 2012, I have plans to be here until 2026, the next World Cup. It will stop there, because it has to stop at some point. In my head it’s very clear,” he told French channel TF1.

After leaving the team of which he became the great face, it is not known what Deschamps will do. The coach did not rule out the possibility of continuing training, but did not confirm any intentions.

“You never want it to end when it’s a beautiful thing, but you have to know how to say stop. There is a life after, I don’t know what it will be, but it will be very good too”, he commented.

Deschamps for France

Didier arrived as a replacement for coach Laurent Blanc, and was world champion at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, as French coach. In addition, he also won the 1998 World Cup as a player, and reached runner-up in the 2022 World Cup as a coach. In addition to the World Cups, he won the UEFA Nations League in 2020/21.
