Between September 1st and December 31st, 2024, DECO Proteste analyzed the prices charged by nine online supermarkets in mainland Portugal, concluding that Pingo Doce stood out as the most competitive, with an index of 100, receiving the seal of “most cheap”. According to the analysis, Froiz, Continente and Auchan had an index of 101, that is, just 1% above the value of Pingo Doce. Intermarché occupied third place, registering prices 3% higher than the cheapest supermarket.
At the opposite end of the ranking, El Corte Inglés was identified as the online supermarket with the highest prices, reaching an index of 109, which reflects values 9% above those charged by Pingo Doce. Supermarkets such as 360Hyper and Minipreço were positioned at intermediate levels, with indices of 104 and 106, respectively.
Prices were collected daily based on a basket made up of more than 200 products, selected and weighted according to the average expenses of Portuguese families. «The results are presented by the DECO Proteste simulator, a tool that has been evaluating prices since 2021 and that uses a methodology of differentiated weights, prioritizing the most recent prices for greater precision.»
