Don't miss this deadline. The time for sowing vegetables for seedlings is approaching

We can produce seedlings at home, e.g. on the kitchen windowsill. However, we must do it either in March – not later. We recommend producing seedlings under cover because we will increase the number of germinating seeds, accelerate the development of seedlings, and protect them against pests and unfavorable weather.. Check the most important information about this method and do not miss the sowing date.

Lettuce is a vegetable that can be spread by seedlings. Thanks to such sowing, we will obtain earlier harvests.

Seedlings are also good for thermophilic vegetables, e.g. watermelon, melon, eggplant, pepper or tomato. It will also work for slow-growing plants, e.g. cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabi.

We can perform this method on plants with a long germination period. We’re talking about artichoke, celery and New Zealand spinach.

In February, it is worth sowing vegetables from seedlings because we will harvest good crops faster. This will also allow you to collect them twice from the same place in the vegetable garden. So how do you go about it?

First, let’s choose the right soil for seedlings. Peat with sand without fertilizer is enough. This substrate has the right amount of nutrients for young vegetables.

Then we fill the seedling containers with this soil. We need to level it and knead it gently. We recommend choosing peat pots or multi-pots. The former can be planted together with plants in the ground (they will biodegrade after the roots grow). In turn, the latter can be easily transferred and used repeatedly.

The most important thing is to provide the vegetable seedlings with a bright and airy placebut not with direct sunlight and drafts. The temperature should be constantbut remember that not all plants tolerate this indoor plant.

We also need to ensure proper hydration. The substrate should be slightly damp, but not soaked. Therefore, we recommend sprinkling the seedlings with water at room temperature.

There is low air humidity in the apartment, that’s why Let’s cover the seeds with glass or even ordinary food foil. We will then create a small greenhouse for them. It is worth making a few holes in it so that fresh air can get to the plants.

Young seedlings must be transferred to their final containers approximately 2-3 weeks after emergence. Before this procedure, we water them abundantly and then remove them from the old pots using a fork or a stick. After pruning, water the plants intensively – this will allow the soil to settle and stick to the roots.

Remember that not all vegetables tolerate quilting. We sow some of them into pots right away. We’re talking about pumpkin, cucumber or beans.

10-14 days before planting vegetables in the ground, we need them Harden them off properly by limiting watering and frequent airingaimed at lowering the temperature. In this way, we will accustom the plants to the conditions outside.
