Hotel occupancy in the Algarve increases by 3% in December

The average occupancy per room in Algarve accommodation units registered an annual increase of 3.0%, in December 2024, reaching 34.9%, according to data this Wednesday revealed by the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA) .

“In December, accommodation units in the Algarve registered an increase of 1.0 percentage points in the occupancy rate per room, compared to the same month in 2023,” AHETA said in a statement, adding that the occupancy rate “was 34.9%, above the value seen in 2023 (+1.0 percentage point, +3.0%)”.

The Algarve business association, based in Albufeira, said that the tourist sending markets that contributed most to the increase in occupancy were the Dutch and German, which registered year-on-year increases of 1.2 and 0.2 percentage points, respectively.

As for the national market, identified as one of the main visitors to the region during the New Year period, AHETA data recorded a “year-on-year decline of 0.4 percentage points” in the last month of last year.

The main hotel association in the Algarve also pointed out that the average stay was 3.3 nights, a record it classified as “similar” to that obtained in December 2023.

The Norwegian market, with an average of 8.4 nights, and the Dutch, with 6.9, were those that recorded “longer average stays” in accommodation units in the Algarve, said the .
