In 2024, the municipality of Loulé achieved one of the best records in rural fire management since 2004, with a burned area of less than 6 hectares. During a meeting of the Municipal Commission for the Integrated Management of Rural Fires in Loulé, the Municipality gave a positive assessment of this fire season.
“The municipality of Loulé had a positive performance in fire management, demonstrating that an integrated and collaborative strategy can generate significant results. It is important to highlight the active role of citizens who, with small gestures and responsible acts, contributed to these results, living up to the idea that civil protection begins with each one of us”, highlighted the municipal managers.
Despite recording the highest number of small fires in the Algarve, many occurrences were classified as false alarms, highlighting the importance of constant vigilance and speed in the first intervention.
At the meeting chaired by Mayor Vítor Aleixo, detailed presentations were presented on the work carried out in terms of planning, prevention, surveillance and firefighting. Participants attributed the positive results to “the strengthening of available means and equipment, the increase in surveillance actions and the intensification of prevention measures”.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, the commitment of all entities involved was highlighted as essential.
The municipal firefighting device, coordinated with CREPC – Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, has been strengthened annually, contributing to more effective prevention policies.
The also maintains protocols with the Infantry Regiment No. 1, with the GNR and with hunting associations in the municipality, promoting patrols by car, motorbike and on horseback. This surveillance effort was intensified until the end of October, when fire danger rates began to decrease.
