You’re tired of the good old lady vegetable saladwhich reigns on Polish tables on all holidays, birthdays and name days? You don’t have to leaf through cookbooks to bring a breath of freshness to your party menu. Prepare your favorite ingredients and layer them instead of mixing them with sauce. This is the kind of salad that you will never get bored of. Perfect for carnival.
To prepare the salad, you will need:
- 150 g marinated mushrooms,
- a bunch of chives,
- 75 g of yellow cheese (e.g. Edam),
- 150 g ham,
- 3 eggs,
- 2-3 potatoes,
- 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise,
- 2 tablespoons of sour cream,
- 1 teaspoon of herbal pepper,
- salt, freshly ground pepper (to taste).
Peel the potatoes and cook in salted water until soft. Wait until they cool down (preferably cook them the day before preparing the salad) and cut them into small cubes. Boil the eggs hard (8-10 minutes after the water boils). Peel and chop.
Drain the mushrooms. Chop the chives. Grate the yellow cheese on a coarse grater. Cut the ham into cubes. Combine mayonnaise with sour cream. Mix thoroughly. Season with herbal pepper, ground peppercorns and salt. Transfer to a pastry bag or simply a plastic bag from which – after cutting off the corner – you can squeeze the sauce in a thin stream.
Prepare a large salad bowl (one that will hold all the salad ingredients). Line it with food foil. Place the mushrooms with their caps side down on the bottom of the salad bowl. Squeeze a small amount of sauce evenly onto them.
Sprinkle the mushrooms with a layer of chives. Then arrange subsequent layers one by one – cheese, ham, eggs, potatoes. Always squeeze a portion of sauce between the layers. Before you do this, lightly press the previous layer with your hand or a spoon.
Once you have used up the ingredients, wrap the salad bowl in foil and put it in the fridge for a few hours (preferably overnight). Before serving the salad, cover the salad bowl with a plate of a slightly larger diameter and turn it (together with the plate) upside down. Remove the salad bowl together with the foil.
