The future for journalism in Austria looks anything but rosy. In December, 956 journalists and employees in related professions were registered as unemployed with the Public Employment Service (AMS) – 156, almost a fifth more than the year before. For some time now there have been repeated job cuts in the country’s major media companies. You have to save costs because advertising sales are falling, as are sales revenues.
