President Lula repeated a pattern he adopted two decades ago with another phenomenon: “City of God”.
This Wednesday (8), the president made a reference to the film starring during the act to remember the two years since the attacks of January 8, 2023 at Palácio do Planalto.
“We are still here, contrary to what the coup plotters planned,” said Lula. He also did live with Torres and created an award in honor of Eunice Paiva, the protagonist of the story. The PT approved notes in support of it.
In 2002, Lula adopted a procedure similar to Fernando Meirelles’ film about violence in Rio’s favelas.
In that year’s presidential campaign,
“This film should be seen by many people in this country, from governors to the Minister of Finance. There are many Cities of God across the country”, he declared at the time. In campaign acts, and later in power,
Lula also chose the favela in Rio to be the stage for the event in January 2003. At the time, the government said that Cidade de Deus would become “an example for Brazil”.
