The president () said this Thursday (9) that he wanted the photo gallery of former presidents, at Palácio do Planalto, to provide more information about each of them. And he mentioned that () “was elected with lies” and (), with a “coup”.
The speech took place during a surprise visit to the gallery, which was vandalized in the coup attacks on January 8, 2023 and reopened last year. It contains photos of all former presidents, with dates of birth and death, as well as the dates of their terms in office.
Lula went to the site accompanied by the First Lady, Rosângela da Silva, Janja, and Presidency officials. During the visit, he complained that there is no more information about each representative.
“What I want is for the story to be told. Dilma was elected, she was re-elected and then she was impeached by a coup. Then this one [Temer] He was not elected, he took office due to Dilma’s impeachment and then this one was elected due to lies [Bolsonaro]. That’s what you have to do,” he said.
Dilma’s mandate was revoked in 2016 in an impeachment process that took place in the Chamber and the Senate. Both Houses considered that the then president committed a crime of responsibility for the so-called “fiscal pedals”, with the opening of budget credit without Congressional approval. The decision, in the process and on the merits, was followed without challenge by the (Supreme Federal Court).
After Dilma’s departure, Temer, elected vice-president in 2014, assumed the Presidency.
According to Janja, each photo in the gallery will be accompanied by a QR code. When the gallery was redone last year, the only change was the installation of a photo of the site after depredation in January 2023.
The president said he was just making guesses. He even suggested including how many votes each person had.
“The only thing I want is, when people come here, when they look at the president’s face, they know what happened to each one. For example, there is a president here who has a photograph of him who only spent one day as president,” he said. Carlos Coimbra da Luz commanded Brazil for three days in 1955.
Lula’s visit to the gallery took place one day after the Palácio do Planalto promoted events to mark two years of the coup attacks on the headquarters of the Three Powers, on January 8, 2023.
On the ground floor of Planalto, there is part of the works that were restored and re-presented to the public on Wednesday, as well as an exhibition that talks about the restoration process.
In his speech at the ceremony, Lula cited investigations into the 2022 coup plot and the film “”.
“We are still here, contrary to what the coup plotters planned,” he declared.
The STF has so far convicted 375 defendants for the acts that resulted in the indictment of 1,682 people involved.
