The São Paulo State Department of Health (SES) confirmed the presence of norovirus in samples of human feces collected in Baixada Santista, on the coast of São Paulo. There is still no information on the origin of the contamination.
The state of São Paulo, as well as Paraná and Santa Catarina are recording a rise in virus cases in recent days. There is no confirmation whether this entire increase is related to norovirus.
According to the researcher at the Instituto Israelita de Ensino e Pesquisa Albert Einstein, Alexandre Marra, norovirus is a type of virus with “high infectious capacity and resistance that causes gastrointestinal conditions such as: diarrhea, vomiting and high fever.”
It can be transmitted by consuming contaminated food and water, as well as contact with infected people.
