Former minister in the president’s first two terms and affiliated with , he assesses that the event at the Palácio do Planalto in memory of them seemed to be organized by “amateurs” and that it was small due to the “epic importance of the date that democracy won”.
The former governor initially demonstrated in a closed group when commenting on the act carried out this Wednesday (8), but with timid participation from members of other Powers — , for example, did not attend.
In a message to the group, which has more than 480 participants, Genro wrote that the meeting was organized by amateurs, without aesthetics, “without state politics, without republican ethos and with few nods to a vast ‘civil society’ that is reformatting the their positions, out of conviction or pragmatism”.
He also quoted the president’s phrase, which he said, understanding that mistresses are often more loved than wives. “God bless me for the gaffe,” he says.
The column sought out the former governor of Rio Grande do Sul to question him about the statement in the group.
“It seemed to me that it was organized by amateurs because, as an act of State on a date that must be epic, it had little impact in a country where 70% of the population already supports the democratic regime, above any other,” he said.
“It seems to me that whoever designed it did not consider that the professionalization of our Armed Forces, now restarted, could put an end to the myth of an authoritarian ‘Moderating Power’ in the Rule of Law”, he continued, in a note sent to the column.
“It did not take into account, therefore, that civil society in Brazil is moving, procedurally, to the center and center-left, thus moving away from the right-wing extremism that governed the country and almost promoted a bloody coup d’état. It was a small act for the epic importance of the date that democracy won”, he concluded.
